Friday, March 28, 2025 - A 200-level student of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, identified as Joy James, allegedly assaulted her colleague and roommate, Joyce Arigbede, a 100-level student, over food.
The incident occurred at a lodge, Justice Arena, in Gubi off campus
where both students reside.
According to the investigation carried out by a committee set up by the
Students' Union Government and Student Affairs, the conflict began when Joy
James ate Joyce Arigbede's food in her absence and without permission.
When Joyce confronted Joy for eating her food, it led to a heated verbal
argument between the duo.
In response to Joyce's complaint, Joy James allegedly assaulted her with
a turning stick, causing a serious facial injury near her eye.
It was further gathered that Joy James attempted to drop a heavy stone
on Joyce's head but was stopped by bystanders.
The SUG President, Citizen Fahad Abdullahi, in a statement issued on
Tuesday, March 25, 2025, condemned all forms of bullying and violence.
He further advised students to avoid any retaliatory actions as the
university management is handling the matter.
“The SUG fully supports the university in ensuring that justice is served. The union remains committed to fairness, safety, and the protection of students' rights,” the statement read.
