Monday, February 17, 2025 - Tensions between Canada and the United States spilled onto the ice during the USA-Canada 4 Nations Face Off game in Montreal, as three fights erupted within nine seconds on Saturday night. The Canadian crowd also made their frustrations known by booing during the "Star-Spangled Banner" before the brawls broke out.
The heated exchanges between players from both sides were captured in
viral videos, showcasing the physical altercations as tempers flared. The
hostility comes amid growing resentment in Canada over U.S. President Donald
Trump’s recent tariffs on Canadian imports, as well as his remarks suggesting
Canada could become the 51st state.
Adding to the tension, Trump has repeatedly mocked outgoing Canadian
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, referring to him as “Governor Trudeau.” Trudeau
was in attendance for the game and witnessed the chaos firsthand as the three
fights unfolded on the ice.
This marks the second time in recent weeks that Canadian hockey fans
have booed the U.S. National Anthem. A similar incident occurred during an
Ottawa Senators vs. Minnesota Wild game earlier this month.
With emotions running high both on and off the ice, the strained
relationship between the two nations appears to be intensifying
