Monday, February 17, 2025 - A gang of armed robbers have reportedly invaded a female hostel, Awolowo hall, at the University of Ibadan.
The armed robbers invaded the hostel in the early hours of Saturday.
It was learnt that valuables such as mobile phones, gadgets and other
property worth millions of naira belonging to the students in the hostel were
carted away by the armed robbers.
A source within the university revealed that the security team was
alerted by the screams of the affected students and quickly responded to the
incident.
But the Registrar of the institution, Ganiyu Saliu while reacting, said
it was a lone thief.
Saliu in a statement on Sunday, confirmed that the thief entered two
rooms in the hostel.
He added that the thief stole mobile phones belonging to the students.
He maintained that the police were alerted immediately the incident
occurred.
He said, “The Management of the University of Ibadan has read with
dismay the news about a lone stealing attack in one of the Halls of Residence
of the university.
“Management states that it was a lone thief who entered two of the rooms
in the hall and stole the mobile phones of the students. The rooms were
inadvertently opened by the students themselves.
“The thief fled immediately when an alarm was raised, and the safety
officers swung into action. The police were alerted, and efforts were made to
track the thief”.
