Suspected Boko Haram terrorist arrested in Taraba



Tuesday, January 28, 2025 - Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected Boko Haram terrorist in Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State

Acting Assistant Director, 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, Captain Olubodunde Oni, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, January 27, 2025, said the suspect,  Gambo Grema, confessed to being part of a syndicate deployed to the state by Boko Haram to engage in kidnapping for ransom as a means of financing their terrorist operation. 

“The gallant troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have recorded another milestone in their relentless efforts to ensure peace and security in Taraba State,” the statement read. 

"Acting on actionable intelligence, on 26 January 2025, troops successfully tracked and apprehended a suspected member of the Boko Haram Terrorist group, identified as Gambo Grema, also known as Gamboi, in Mai-Hula town, Bali Local Government Area.

"During preliminary investigations, the suspect confessed to being part of a syndicate deployed by Boko Haram to Taraba State. Their mission was to engage in kidnapping for ransom as a means of financing their terrorist operations and to establish a new cell within the state. 

"The suspect further revealed that the syndicate also harboured members of the Islamic State In West Africa Province (ISWAP) who were deployed from the Timbuktu Triangle to carry out other criminal activities.

"The Commander 6 Brigade Nigerian Army Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, while commenting on the operation, noted that the operation underscores the commitment of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS to neutralizing threats posed by terrorist elements and safeguarding the lives and property of citizens in Taraba State and beyond. He assured the public that it remains resolute in its mission to maintain peace and stability in the region.

“General Uwa equally urged members of the public to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing operations.”
