Tuesday, January 28, 2025 - Former President, Muhammadu Buhari has revealed that he sustains himself through rental income from one of his houses in Kaduna State, underscoring his commitment to integrity and transparency during his time in office.
Addressing the All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus at the Katsina
Government House ahead of the February 15 local council elections, Buhari
reflected on the complexities of governing Nigeria and the need for leaders to
prioritize accountability and good governance.
“Nigeria is a difficult country to govern, but many don’t realize it.
Only when you take up an administrative position will you understand the
challenges,” Buhari said in Hausa. He noted, “I look healthier and better now
than when I was in office. People often comment on my improved appearance.”
He highlighted that during his eight-year presidency, he avoided using
his position for personal gain.
“I have only three houses—one in Daura and two in Kaduna. I’ve rented
out one of them to sustain myself and cover my feeding expenses,” Buhari said,
adding that no one could accuse him of financial impropriety.
The former president also emphasized the importance of transparency and
accountability as pillars of effective governance, urging Nigerian leaders to
uphold these values for the nation’s progress.
