Thursday, January 23, 2025 - An officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Kano State Command, sustained injuries during the arrest of two suspected drug dealers in Bebeji Local Government Area of the state.
The NDLEA spokesperson in the state, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, disclosed
this in a statement issued on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
The suspects, identified as Musa Usman, 25, and Buhari Ya’u Bashir, 24,
were arrested during a targeted operation at Rahama Roundabout on January 20,
2025.
According to the statement, the operation led to the seizure of various
quantities of illicit substances, including 1.1 kilograms of cannabis sativa,
eight grams (38 tablets) of diazepam, and 59 grams (165 tablets) of Exol.
He revealed that during the operation, Musa Usman, armed with a dagger,
attempted to resist arrest by attacking the officers, resulting in one officer
sustaining a stab injury.
Reacting to the incident, the State Commander, Abubakar Idris Ahmad,
condemned the attack and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to its mandate.
"Attacks on law enforcement officers in the line of duty will not
deter us from carrying out our mission to rid society of the scourge of drug
abuse and trafficking,” Ahmad stated.
He added
that both suspects are currently in the custody of the NDLEA and will be
charged with drug-related offences as well as assaulting a law enforcement
officer.
