Singer TREY SONGZ ordered to pay $11M for battering police officer

Wednesday, November 27, 2024 -
R&B artist Trey Songz has been ordered to pay more than $11 million in damages in connection with a 2021 battery case involving a Maryland Capitol police officer.

Court documents obtained by TMZ reveal that Tyrelle Dunn, the officer who filed the lawsuit, alleged he was injured while trying to rescue his wife from Songz's hotel room at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas during the singer's 37th birthday celebration.

Dunn’s lawsuit claimed that Songz invited a group of women to his room, where Dunn’s wife allegedly screamed for help, saying she was being held against her will. When Dunn intervened, he says he was attacked by Songz and his security team, leaving him with serious injuries, including fractured eye sockets and permanent scarring that caused him to miss work.

Although Songz was cleared of criminal charges in April 2022, Dunn pursued a civil lawsuit. According to the court documents, Songz did not respond to the suit, resulting in a default judgment.

The Las Vegas judge awarded damages to Dunn for past medical expenses, pain and suffering, and punitive damages, totalling over $11 million.

This ruling marks a significant legal and financial setback for the “Bottoms Up” singer, who has faced other controversies in recent years. Neither Trey Songz nor his legal team has publicly commented on the judgment.
