Yobe police arrest self-proclaimed marabout for abducting and impregnating 20-year-old lady

 - The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a self-proclaimed marabout for abducting and impregnating a 20-year-old lady. 

 Spokesperson of the command, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, said the arrest was made after the Tarmuwa Divisional Police received a complaint from one Alhaji Mohammed Kellu that his daughter was abducted by the suspect. 

  Following a thorough search, the victim was found in the suspect’s custody in Anguwan Arewa, Gaya LGA, Kano State while medical examination revealed that the victim was two months pregnant. 

  The victim confessed that she was coerced into drinking a medicinal concoction, which rendered her unconscious and vulnerable to the perpetrator’s actions.

 The PPRO noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Ahmed, reiterated the command's commitment to combating gender-based violence (GBV) and related crimes. 

 "Notably, the command has achieved significant success in tackling these heinous crimes, which often leave victims with severe physical and emotional trauma," the statement read. 

 "Recently, the command arrested Mallam Auwalu Haruna, a self-proclaimed Marabout, for alleged abduction, use of charms, and impregnating a 20-year-old woman

 "Between January and June 2024, the command recorded 34 cases of GBV and related crimes, with 85% currently undergoing trial and a few convictions secured

 "In the latest incident, Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters received a complaint from Alh Mohammed Kellu that his daughter was abducted by Mallam Auwalu Haruna on June 6, 2024. Following a thorough search, the victim was found in the suspect's custody in Anguwan Arewa, Gaya LGA, Kano State.

Medical examination revealed that the victim was two months pregnant. The victim confessed that she was coerced into drinking a medicinal concoction, which rendered her unconscious and vulnerable to the perpetrator's actions. The State CID has launched an investigation into the incident

 "In this vein, the Commissioner of Police urges parents, guardians, and community leaders to be vigilant about the relationships their wards have with others, as perpetrators are often close relatives, neighbours, or acquaintances

"He calls on stakeholders to join forces in combating GBV, which has far-reaching consequences for the well-being and development of the girl child and society at large.

"The command assures that perpetrators will face the full weight of the law. Thank you for your usual cooperation.
