Friday, June 28, 2024 -Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has suggested that herders may be destroying farmers' crops as an act of revenge for losing their grazing reserves.
He made the claim while discussing
insecurity in the North-West during an appearance on Channels Television’s
Sunrise Daily program on Friday, June 28.
Governor Namadi said;
“Deliberate like in form of revenge. The
herders felt their cattle route have been taken over, their grazing reserve has
been taken over. So because of that they felt this is an injustice and they
need to take a revenge.”
However, the governor noted that since
taking office a year ago, his administration has been actively working to
resolve the conflict and their peace efforts are beginning to show positive
results.
