Thursday, July 3, 2025 - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday doubled down on his vow to destroy Hamas, delivering his first public comments since U.S. President Donald Trump revealed what he described as a “final proposal” for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza.
“There will not be a Hamas. There will not be a Hamastan.
We're not going back to that. It's over,” Netanyahu declared during a meeting
hosted by the Trans-Israel pipeline company, signaling that Israel’s military
objectives remain unchanged despite renewed international pressure to halt
fighting.
Trump had announced a day earlier that Israel had agreed to
U.S.-brokered conditions for a temporary halt in hostilities aimed at allowing
humanitarian aid into the enclave and setting the stage for potential hostage
negotiations. The statement from the president added a dramatic twist to
diplomatic efforts, though Netanyahu’s forceful remarks suggested Israel would
not accept any deal that leaves Hamas in power in Gaza.
The latest developments come amid mounting global calls for
an end to the nearly year-long conflict, which has left thousands dead and
devastated the coastal territory. Netanyahu’s insistence on Hamas’ total defeat
underscores the deep divisions still at play, complicating hopes that a
ceasefire could evolve into a lasting peace agreement.
