Tuesday, November 3, 2026 - A fire outbreak has destroyed about 12 shops at a community market in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
According to a report by a local radio station, the fire
started at about midnight and continued to burn until around 6 a.m.
The affected shops reportedly belonged to traders dealing in
palm oil, mats, mattresses and other goods.
Some of the affected traders said they were unaware of the
cause of the fire, explaining that they received distress calls in the middle
of the night informing them that their shops were on fire, prompting them to
rush to the market.
The traders also alleged that the fire truck stationed at
Gezawa Commodity Market was not functional, forcing them to seek assistance
from firefighters in Nassarawa.
They appealed to the Kano State Government and Gezawa Local
Government Council to provide a functional fire truck for the area to ensure a
timely response to future emergencies and prevent further losses.
The cause of the fire and the total value of property
destroyed have yet to be established.
