Wednesday, October 14, 2026 -The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two men over alleged possession of Indian hemp and a 20-year-old man for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl in the state.
The arrests were disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday
by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib.
Habib said the arrests were part of the command’s sustained
efforts to combat crime across the state.
He explained that the first incident occurred on October 12,
2026, when a patrol team attached to the Duguri Divisional Police Headquarters
arrested two men allegedly found with dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The suspects were identified as Iliyasu Yakubu, 27, and
Zakariya Ibrahim, 25, both residents of Duguri town.
According to the police spokesman, Yakubu was found in
possession of the suspected substance, while Ibrahim was allegedly identified
as his supplier.
The statement read, “On 12/10/2026 at about 0210hrs, a
patrol team attached to Duguri Division, while on routine crime prevention
patrol, arrested one Iliyasu Yakubu, 27 years old, of Duguri town, found in
possession of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, alongside his vendor, one
Zakariya Ibrahim, 25 years old, of the same address.”
Habib said the suspects were arrested and the exhibits
recovered, adding that investigations into the case were ongoing.
In a separate development, the command arrested a
20-year-old man, Mujahid Danjuma, for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl
in the Bundot area of Dass Local Government Area.
Habib said the case was reported on September 28 by the
victim’s 30-year-old mother at the Dass Divisional Police Headquarters.
According to the statement, the alleged offence occurred on
September 25, when Danjuma reportedly lured the girl into an unfinished
building in the area and had unlawful sexual intercourse with her.
The police spokesman said the victim was taken to the
General Hospital, Dass, where a medical examination reportedly confirmed
penetration, while the suspect fled after the alleged offence.
He added that the suspect was arrested in the early hours of
Tuesday, October 13, following sustained efforts and intelligence-led policing.
“In a display of relentless follow-up and intelligence-led
policing, operatives of the command at the early hours of today, 13th October,
2026, arrested the fleeing suspect, Mujahid Danjuma, who is currently in
custody,” the statement added.
Habib said all three suspects would be transferred to the
State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and
prosecution.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori
Aliyu, had reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating crime in the state.
The command urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant
and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
