Tuesday, October 13, 2026 - Not a few Gombe State traditional Qur’anic schools have benefited from the eggs distribution scheme aimed at promoting child nutrition.
The scheme, which was organised to mark the 2026 World Egg
Day, Arewa PUNCH gathered, was driven by the need to promote child
nutrition without discrimination based on economic background.
The two-day celebration is being held under the theme,
“Nourishing Children, Empowering Farmers and Building Stronger Communities.”
According to our correspondent, the programme also offers an
opportunity to deepen the organiser’s contributions to agriculture, nutrition
and community development, even as the promoters equally reaffirmed their
commitment to sustainable agricultural practices, improved nutrition and the
economic empowerment of women and young people.
Among the major beneficiaries of the scheme, powered by
AIT Integrated Farms were selected Tsangaya and Almajiri
schools.
The initiative led the farm to distribute 3,000 boiled eggs
to the Tsangaya and Almajiri pupils alongside other
vulnerable children, marking the first phase of the farm’s
two-day celebrations, which also features training for backyard poultry farmers
and business support for egg retailers.
The promoter of the farm, Abubakar Tata, said “the decision
to distribute eggs to pupils in traditional Qur’anic schools was driven by the
need to promote child nutrition without discrimination based on economic
background.”
He further explained, “We are not reaching out because they
are Almajiris; we are reaching out because they are our children. Their health
matters, their education matters, and their future matters.”
He described eggs as an affordable source of high-quality
protein and essential nutrients needed for children’s physical growth,
cognitive development and general well-being.
According to him, “the grants are designed to strengthen the
working capital of existing retailers who have demonstrated commitment to their
businesses despite prevailing economic difficulties.”
Tata said “the celebration held additional significance as
it coincided with the farm’s 10th anniversary, offering an opportunity to
deepen its contributions to agriculture, nutrition and community development,”
even as he reaffirmed “the farm’s commitment to sustainable agricultural
practices, improved nutrition and the economic empowerment of women and young
people.”
