Tuesday, September 1, 2026 - Nigerian medical expert has stated that Abuja-based kidney procedure involving several young men was a case of voluntary organ donation rather than illegal trafficking or forced harvesting.
Speaking on Channels TV, consultant surgeon Dr. Torngee Malu revealed that
the young men’s own statements confirm they were fully aware their kidneys were
being harvested for a patient with end-stage kidney disease. According to Malu,
the donors even swore court affidavits prior to the surgeries.
Dr. Malu maintained that the medical team followed strict standard
procedures, ensuring all donors were consenting adults over 18 operating in a
standard hospital. Defending the financial compensation given to the men, he
drew a parallel to routine blood donations where individuals are paid daily for
biological tissue.
Instead of being victimised by the public, Malu argued that the doctors
involved should be celebrated for saving a life.
