Suspected militia members kill 3 herders in Plateau community




Monday, September 14, 2026 - Three herders killed in Aloghom area of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State have been buried amid tears in Mangu.

The victims, identified as Garzali Shaibu, 18; Bashiru Yakubu, 14; and Salim Abubakar, 15, were killed on Saturday while tending their cattle. About 50 cattle were also reportedly killed in the attack

The funeral prayer was conducted at Mangu Central Mosque on Sunday and led by the Chief Imam, Jibrin Ahmad Dalhat. The victims were later buried at Mangu Cemetery

The state chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, condemned the attack, describing it as unprovoked.

Speaking at the burial, MACBAN Secretary in Mangu, Muhammad Salihu, urged youths to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their hands.

“We are calling on the government and security agencies to look into the incessant killing of our members and destruction of our property,” he said

Salihu said herders in the area had suffered more than 11 attacks and appealed to the government to ensure the safety of all residents, regardless of their ethnic or religious background.

Security personnel at the burial urged the community to remain calm, saying investigations into the incident were ongoing.gations into the incident were ongoing.
