Monday, September 7, 2026 - The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with a violent clash that led to the deaths of two persons in Dass Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib,
disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, saying the suspects were
being investigated for alleged criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance and
culpable homicide.
Habib said preliminary investigations revealed that the
incident began on September 4, 2026, at about 6pm, when one Ibrahim El-Safwan,
also known as Jabala’i, allegedly conspired with others and attacked a
29-year-old tricycle rider, Abdulrahman Nuru, in the Tudun Wus area of Dass.
According to the police, Nuru, who was from the Bundot area
of Dass, was allegedly stabbed with cutlasses on various parts of his body.
The statement read, “Preliminary investigation revealed that
on the said date at about 1800hrs, one Ibrahim El-Safwan, aka Jabala’i, of
Bayan Fada area, Dass, criminally conspired with his accomplices, intercepted
and brutally attacked one Abdulrahman Nuru, 29 years old, a tricycle rider of
Bundot area, Dass, stabbing him with cutlasses on various parts of his body at
Tudun Wus area, Dass.”
Habib said policemen attached to the Dass Division were
immediately mobilised to the scene after receiving a report of the attack.
He said that on arrival, the police discovered that
personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, whose office was
close to the scene, had taken custody of the victim’s tricycle and apprehended
one suspect.
The victim was subsequently rushed to the General Hospital,
Dass, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
The police spokesman said the killing triggered tension in
the area as youths from Bundot allegedly mobilised in large numbers, armed with
cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, and stormed the Bayan Fada area in an
apparent reprisal attack.
He said the development resulted in a violent confrontation
between the two groups near the Dass Central Motor Park.
“During the violent confrontation, another victim, one
Mukhtar Jibrin, 38 years old, of Bayan Fada area, was stabbed. He was rushed to
the General Hospital, Dass, and later referred to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa
University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he was also confirmed dead,” the
statement added.
Habib said detectives swiftly intervened, restored calm and
arrested seven suspects in connection with the incident.
The suspects are Umar Abubakar, 20, of Bayan Fada; Blus
Garba, 19; Adamu Muhammad, 17; Hussaini Danjuma, 17; Hassan Danjuma, 17;
Shuaibu Sani, 17; and Aliyu Abdullahi, 18, all of the Bundot area of Dass.
He added that efforts were ongoing to arrest other suspects
believed to have fled.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state,
Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the killings and ordered a discreet and thorough
investigation into the incident.
Aliyu appealed to residents of Dass to remain calm and
law-abiding and refrain from taking the law into their own hands, assuring them
that those responsible would be brought to justice.
