Monday, September 7, 2026 - A retired Superintendent of Police, Emmanuel Ahmed, has gone missing after leaving his home
in Abeokuta, Ogun State, to meet a Fulani man with whom he
had a cattle-rearing arrangement.
Ahmed’s son, Emmanuel Nehemiah, told Punch on Sunday that
his father left home on July 23, 2026, after receiving a call from the Fulani
man, identified as Muhammed Saleh, who invited him to meet at Rounder, along
Ayetoro Road, and then proceed to Alamutu Market to sell two cows.
Nehemiah said his father told his wife that Saleh had called
him about the sale before leaving home on his motorcycle to meet him.
He said, “On July 23, the Fulani man called my father and
told him that it was market day at Alamutu in Ogun State, where cows, goats and
other livestock were sold. He asked my father to meet him at a place called
Rounder so that they could go to the market together and sell the cows.
“My father left home and went to Rounder to meet him. As a
retired Superintendent of Police, he knew some of the police officers at a
checkpoint there and stopped to exchange pleasantries with them.
“When we started looking for him, the police officers told
us that they had seen him with the Fulani man on his Bajaj motorcycle. They
said my father had carried the man on the motorcycle and was returning to
Abeokuta from the direction of Alamutu market.”
He added that police officers at a checkpoint in Rounder
later confirmed they had seen the retired officer with Saleh on the motorcycle.
According to him, that was the last confirmed sighting of
his father, who did not return home that night despite efforts by family
members to reach him.
Nehemiah said the family reported the matter to the police,
and the case was initially handled by the division covering the area before it
was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department and the
anti-kidnapping unit at Eleweran.
He continued, “We obtained the Fulani man’s telephone number
and began trying to trace his movements and identify people who had been in
contact with him. The man’s number, as well as my father’s numbers, has been
switched off
“We also tried to track the Fulani man’s movements. The
information we obtained showed movements around Oyo State and contacts with
other Fulani men.
“The police eventually arrested two people and handed them
over to the anti-kidnapping unit at Eleweran, Abeokuta, as the case had been
transferred to the State CID.”
He expressed concern that no significant progress had been
communicated to the family since the case was transferred.
He added that the family was seeking help from higher
authorities to escalate the matter, stressing that their immediate concern was
to establish that the retired policeman was alive and safe, particularly
because he was hypertensive.
“My father is also hypertensive, so we are particularly
concerned about his safety and health. Our immediate concern is to establish
that he is alive, safe and in excellent condition, and then work towards
bringing him back home,” he added.
When contacted for a reaction to the matter on Sunday, the
Ogun State Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Opeyemi Oluborode, confirmed
the incident.
He noted that the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, had
since directed the anti-kidnapping unit of the command to ensure the safe
return of the missing retired police officer.
“The command is aware of the incident. As soon as the matter
was reported, the CP directed the anti-kidnapping unit to ensure that the man
was rescued safely and reunited with his family.
“The command is not relenting in its efforts to ensure the
safe return of the man. The command is also committed to securing the lives and
properties of every resident of the state,” Oluborode said.
