Wednesday, September 30, 2026 - The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 60-year-old man, Abdullahi Abubakar, for allegedly kidnapping a 16-year-old boy, Usman Dauda, in Zigau Village, Shira Local Government Area of the state.
The command also disclosed that the victim was rescued
unhurt during the operation.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib,
disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.
Habib said that at about 10pm on September 28, 2026, Yana
Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress report from the victim’s
50-year-old father that his son had been abducted from Misau town to Bangala
Village by Abubakar.
According to him, the suspect allegedly intended to take the
teenager to Kano for yet-to-be-ascertained reasons.
He said, “Upon receipt of the report, detectives swiftly
mobilised to the scene, successfully rescued the victim unhurt and arrested the
suspect.
“Thereafter, the victim was taken to General Hospital Yana
for medical examination.”
The PPRO added that a preliminary investigation revealed
that the suspect confessed to unlawfully confining the victim in his room for a
day without proper feeding.
In a separate operation, Habib said operatives attached to
the ‘A’ Division arrested five suspects at Doya Quarters, Bauchi, at about
4:30pm on the same day for alleged criminal conspiracy, trespass,
housebreaking, mischief and theft.
He said the suspects had invaded an incomplete building at
Doya Quarters and allegedly carted away windows and glass before the arrival of
the owner.
“However, luck ran out on them as operatives, acting on
credible intelligence, promptly swooped on the area and apprehended all five
suspects, with the stolen items recovered as exhibits,” he stated.
Similarly, Habib disclosed that at about 5:30am, information
was received at the ‘A’ Division that some hoodlums had been sighted with
suspected stolen items concealed in a black bag.
He said operatives promptly mobilised and arrested the
suspects, adding that preliminary investigation confirmed the items to be
stolen.
“At about 1200hrs, the owners traced the items to the
Division with proof of ownership for identification and collection,” he stated.
The PPRO noted that the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State
Command, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, had directed that all the cases be transferred to
the State Criminal Investigation Department, Bauchi, for discreet investigation
and prosecution.
He said, “The Command remains resolute in its commitment to
safeguarding lives and property and urges members of the public to continue to
provide timely and credible information to the Police.”
