Sunday, September 13, 2026 - The Abia State Police Command says it has rescued a medical doctor from kidnappers and apprehended a Point of Sale, PoS operator for allegedly receiving ransom money from the family of the rescued doctor.
The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred
Afolabi, disclosed this on Friday in Umuahia while briefing
journalists on the achievements of the Command in under one month after his
assumption of office.
He announced that the medical doctor, Ikenna Ilo, who was
abducted on August 19, 2026, has been rescued by operatives of the Abia State
Police Command through actionable intelligence.
“Leveraging actionable intelligence, operatives of the
Command were immediately deployed, and the movement of the vehicle was traced
towards Imo State, prompting collaboration with the Imo State Police Command.”
The CP who confirmed that the medical doctor was rescued
unharmed, said that four suspects, including a PoS operator have been arrested
for dismantling the car tracker in the victim’s car, and for receiving ransom
money, respectively.
“Three other suspects who were involved in the dismantling
of the tracker in the vehicle and the POS operators who received ransom are in
our custody as an investigation is ongoing and efforts intensify to identify,
apprehend and dismantle other members of the criminal syndicate.”
He said that under his watch as the Abia CP, many suspected
criminals have been arrested with guns, ammunition and stolen items recovered
from suspects.
He added that suspects were also arrested in various parts
of Abia State for defilement, vandalism and other criminal activities, among
other achievements.
