Thursday, September 24, 2026 - The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspected drug traffickers and recovered 69 blocks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in the state.
The command also arrested four suspects over the alleged
murder of a 45-year-old farmer, Garba Abdullahi, in the Gadau area of the
state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib,
disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, saying the arrests were part
of the command’s sustained operations against crime and criminality across the
state.
Habib said that on September 21, 2026, at about 3pm,
operatives attached to the Gadau Division, acting on credible intelligence,
intercepted a black Sharon Wagon with registration number WKA 805 along
Sharfolli village, Atafowa District.
He explained that the vehicle was suspected to be conveying
illicit drugs.
The PPRO said, “The police team’s prompt response led to the
arrest of two suspects, namely Shu’aibu Umar, 35, and Isah Ibrahim, 20, both of
Atafowa village, Itas/Gadau Local Government Area, in possession of 69 blocks
of dried leaves reasonably suspected to be Indian hemp concealed in bags of
groundnut.
“The suspects are in custody, while the exhibits have been
recovered.”
In a related development, Habib said the command received a
report on September 22, 2026, that a 45-year-old man, Garba Abdullahi, had been
attacked while returning from his farm.
According to him, the victim was allegedly attacked by four
persons who accused him of being responsible for the illness of one Sawaida
Dahiru.
He said, “On September 22, 2026, at about 12:35pm, a
35-year-old man of Dunari village via Atahowa District reported at Gadau
Division that on the same date at about 11:40am, his elder brother, one Garba
Abdullahi, 45 years old, was brutally attacked on his way home from the farm by
four persons who accused him of being responsible for the illness of one
Sawaida Dahiru.
“The suspects, identified as Shitu Dahiru, 25 years old;
Magaji Dahiru, 42 years old; Sabi’u Auwalu, 20 years old; and Abbah Abdulzahar,
19 years old, all males and of the same address, allegedly stabbed and macheted
the victim on various parts of his body, leaving him unconscious.”
Habib added that police operatives, upon receiving the
report, rushed to the scene and evacuated the victim to the General Hospital,
Azare, for medical attention.
He said the victim was later confirmed dead by a medical
doctor, adding that his remains were released to his relatives for burial.
The PPRO stated that all four suspects had been arrested.
The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP
Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned what he described as the increasing cases of
jungle justice and self-help based on superstitious beliefs.
He warned that nobody had the right to take another person’s
life under any guise.
Habib said both cases had been transferred to the State
Criminal Investigation Department, Bauchi, for discreet investigation and
subsequent prosecution.
The command reassured residents of its commitment to
protecting lives and property, while urging members of the public to continue
providing timely and credible information to the police.
The command also advised citizens to desist from taking the
law into their own hands.
This comes barely 10days after the Oyo State Police Command
arrested a suspected drug dealer in the Apata area of Ibadan.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade
Olayinka, said the command arrested the suspect, identified as Rilwan, on
Friday, September 11, 2026, at about 8 am in the Apata area of the city, acting
on credible intelligence.
