Wednesday, September 9, 2026 - Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested a 25-year-old man, Jabir Yusuf, over the alleged shooting of his neighbour, Hassan Mohamed, also aged 25, in the Toro Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred on Monday at Rinjin Gura village, via
Zalau Ward, according to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson,
Nafiu Habib, on Tuesday.
The statement said preliminary investigation revealed that a
report was received at the Rishi Divisional Police Station from a resident of
Zalau Ward that Yusuf had allegedly fired a Dane gun, hitting Mohamed in the
neck and causing fatal injuries.
Following the report, operatives of the Gumau Division
mobilised to the scene and rushed the victim to Toro General Hospital for
medical attention.
However, the victim was pronounced dead by the doctor on
duty.
The police said the deceased’s body was subsequently
released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
“The corpse was profiled and released to the family for
burial in accordance with Islamic rites. The suspect has been apprehended, and
the Dane gun recovered as exhibit. The case has been transferred to the State
Criminal Investigation Department, Bauchi, for discreet investigation and
possible prosecution,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, ordered a
thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
