Friday, September 11, 2026 - A 39-year-old Nigerian businessman and Lagos real estate CEO, Edwin Omokhuale, has been arrested in Dublin, Ireland, over an alleged $23 million fraud involving an Australian mining company.
The UK National Crime Agency, NCA, announced the arrest in a
report published on September 10, 2026, saying Omokhuale was detained by
officers of An Garda Síochána on a UK arrest warrant.
He was arrested at Dublin Airport
on Wednesday afternoon as he was about to board a flight to Paris.
According to the NCA, Omokhuale faces money laundering
charges over the alleged fraud, which involved about US$23 million,
approximately £17 million, in early 2023.
Investigators believe the suspected fraudsters were based in
the UK and deceived employees of the Australian company into transferring money
to bank accounts they controlled.
“Omokhuale, who lived in the UK at the time of the fraud,
will appear in court in Dublin as extradition proceedings to bring him back to
the UK commence,” the NCA said.
