Thursday, September 10, 2026 - The Federal Government has paid the naira equivalent of $100,000 to each D’Tigress player, fulfilling President Bola Tinubu’s promised presidential rewards for the team’s historic 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket triumph.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) confirmed that the
players’ accounts were credited on September 9, 2026, with all recipients
subsequently confirming receipt of the funds.
The NSC said the cash payment completed all components of
the presidential reward promised to the team. The package included
three-bedroom flats in Abuja, national honours of the Order of the Niger and
the cash component.
“With the payment, the entire presidential rewards promised
to each member of the team by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, comprising a
3-Bedroom flat in Abuja, national honours of OON and Naira equivalent of $USD
100,000 to players and $USD 50,000 to officials have been fully redeemed and
completed,” the commission said in a statement signed by its Director of
Information and Public Relations, Kehinde Ajayi.
D’Tigress acknowledged the reward on Thursday with a post on
its official X handle, with a caption: “Presidential reward acknowledged.”
D’Tigress made history at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket
by winning their fifth consecutive continental title, extending their dominance
of African women’s basketball.
