Friday, September 11, 2026 - A 25-year-old woman, Kehinde Onize, has been tragically hacked to death by her husband, a meat seller identified as Sadiq Ibrahim, during a domestic dispute in the Dalimore area of Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
According to reports from Channels TV, the suspect—popularly
known as Alfa Eleran—attacked his wife with a machete during a
heated argument while family friends were attempting to resolve their marital
issues. The couple had visited the residence of a friend of the deceased’s
father, who had offered to mediate the dispute. However, the meeting escalated
into a violent physical confrontation, during which Ibrahim repeatedly struck
his wife with the weapon, inflicting fatal injuries. The suspect fled the
scene immediately after the attack.
Speaking on behalf of the family, the victim's cousin,
Lawrence Yusuf, revealed that Kehinde had been secretly planning to pack her
things and leave the marriage after noticing her clothes and underwear were
mysteriously disappearing from the house. She had arranged to travel to her
sister's residence on Thursday, September 10, under the guise of going for a
work trip.
Yusuf alleged that the victim was invited to the mediation
venue on Wednesday morning by the mediator's wife, unaware that her husband
would be there. While the suspect remains at large, the police have reportedly
taken several individuals present at the scene into custody to assist with
ongoing investigations. The family has appealed to security agencies for
justice, noting that the fleeing suspect stole the victim's mobile phone, which
they believe holds crucial evidence.
“We want him
to be found and arrested. We want justice for our daughter. Her parents are in
pain, and my family is in serious agony. She didn’t deserve this”.he said
The Ekiti state police command is yet to comment on the sad
development.
