Thursday, September 24, 2026 - Congolese cyclist Miguel Masaisai has d!ed while on a
17-country journey across Africa to promote peace.
The 23-year-old from Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo,
began his “Pedals for Peace” journey on May 1, with plans to cycle about
14,000km from Goma to Rabat, Morocco.
Masaisai had already travelled more than 6,500km and reached Kinshasa before continuing into Congo-Brazzaville.
On September 18, his bicycle developed a problem, prompting
him to take a taxi to have it repaired. The vehicle later cr@shed into a truck
near Ouesso, close to the Congo-Cameroon border.
Masaisai, the taxi driver and two other passengers d!ed in
the crash.
Before embarking on his final journey, Masaisai had also
cycled from Goma to Cape Town, South Africa, in 2025.
