3 killed, several injured in multiple-vehicle collision along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Saturday, September 5, 2026 -Three people have been confirmed dead while 10 others sustained injuries in a multiple road crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Sector Command, said the crash occurred at about 5:10pm on Friday at the Long Bridge, opposite Mikano.

The crash involved a white Mazda bus with registration number AGL891XX, a white Toyota bus with registration number KJA247YM and a white Toyota Corolla car with registration number BDG867HG.

According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Afolabi Odunsi, a total of 16 persons were involved in the crash, comprising 12 males and four females.

The statement read in part, “Preliminary assessment indicates speed violation  and loss of control as the probable causes of the crash. However, further investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.”

The FRSC said the crash was reported to its officials at 5:34pm, while its rescue team arrived at the scene six minutes later.

The command said its operatives immediately commenced rescue operations and traffic management, adding that some of the injured victims were evacuated to AZ Hospital, Magboro, while others were taken to the Accident and Emergency Centre, Ojota, for treatment.

According to the command, the remains of the deceased were evacuated to Ifo Morgue and Idera Morgue, Sagamu, by officials of the Ogun State Ambulance Service and the FRSC.

The crashed vehicles were subsequently taken into the custody of the Motor Traffic Division of the police at Warewa for further investigation.

The Ogun State Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, sympathised with the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.

Ogunjobi urged motorists plying the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to exercise caution, avoid excessive speed, maintain proper control of their vehicles and remain alert throughout their journeys.

He added that motorists should “drive within safe speed limits” and avoid any behaviour capable of compromising their safety and that of other road users.
