Wednesday, September 16, 2026 - A 15-year-old domestic help, identified simply as Amarachi, has been successfully rescued by law enforcement officials after being allegedly locked inside a toilet for months by her employers at their residence in Abuloma, Rivers State.
Amarachi, an indigene of Ebonyi State, was reportedly
employed as a housemaid by Eze Simeon and his wife. Preliminary findings reveal
that the couple subjected the teenager to severe neglect and physical
confinement inside their toilet as a form of punishment for an offense. During
the months of her ordeal, she was allegedly fed only once a day with leftover
food.
The victim's prolonged confinement came to an end when she
managed to raise an alarm while her employers were out. Her cries for help
attracted neighbors, who immediately contacted the Abuloma Police
Division.
The police immediately arrived the scene and successfully
rescued the victim.
Confirming the incident the command's spokesperson,
Agabe Blessing, said investigations into the matter are ongoing. She stated
that the couple is in police custody while the victim's family are in Rivers
state to collect her.
