Friday, August 14, 2026 - Nickelodeon star Christy Knowings has died at the age of 46 after suffering an asthma attack which reportedly left her with brain damage
The actor and comedian, best known for starring in the
iconic children’s sketch show All That, died in Los Angeles on Tuesday after
being taken to hospital days earlier.
According to TMZ, Knowings suffered an asthma attack on
Friday and was subsequently placed on life support after sustaining brain
damage. Her family ultimately made the decision to remove her from life support
on Tuesday night, the publication reported. Her aunt, Tyleah Joseph, announced
her death on Facebook the following day.
Knowings’ manager, Al Hill, remembered the performer as a
woman of many talents who remained dedicated to her craft throughout her
career. ‘Christy was a multi-talented lady,’ he told Variety in a statement.
‘Whether it was singing, acting, dancing, she was always creating. Always
professional and dedicated to her work.’
Knowings became a familiar face to a generation of
Nickelodeon viewers after joining All That in 1997. She was a main cast member
for three seasons between 1997 and 2001, joining the programme alongside Leon
Frierson and Danny Tamborelli for its fourth season.
Knowings had previously been discovered through the pilot of
And Now This, a sketch comedy project produced by Rosie O’Donnell. Her arrival
on All That put her alongside some of the biggest young comedy stars of the
era, including Amanda Bynes, Kenan Thompson, Kel Mitchell, Lori Beth Denberg
and Josh Server.
Nick Cannon and Gabriel Iglesias were among the other future
stars who would later join the programme. Knowings eventually returned to All
That as a guest star during its 10th season. Often described as a Saturday
Night Live for children, All That first premiered on Nickelodeon in 1994 and
became one of the network’s defining shows.
The sketch series launched or helped establish the careers
of a remarkable number of stars, with its sprawling cast over the years also
including Jamie Lynn Spears. Knowings also worked alongside her twin brother,
Chris Knowings, during her career, with the siblings appearing together in
three episodes of Sesame Street.
Her death marks the second tragedy to hit the All That
family this year. Former cast member Kianna Underwood died aged 33 at the
beginning of 2026 after being struck in a hit-and-run crash. Underwood appeared
on the Nickelodeon series during its later years and also worked as a child
actor on other television projects.
