Sunday, August 16, 2026 - Jamal Musiala collapsed on the pitch during Bayern Munich's 3-1 Telekom Cup Final victory over RB Leipzig on Saturday night. August 15, in scary scenes.
The Germany international had to be caught by teammate
Ismael Saibari as he began to look unsteady on his feet. As the match moved
towards the last five minutes, Musiala appeared to be struggling in the intense
heat. With temperatures soaring at 33 degrees Celsius, he began to look
disorientated and wobbled while standing on the pitch, shortly after scoring
Bayern's third goal.
While standing still, Musiala became unsteady and started falling in stages before Saibari rushed over to help him lie down on the grass alongside Joshua Kimmich.
Bayern's medical team charged onto the pitch to provide
treatment as the 23-year-old lay still. Fortunately, after a few minutes,
medical staff confirmed that nothing serious had occurred. He stood up, was
helped to the touchline to applause from fans chanting his name, and was
clapped off the pitch.
Speaking
post-match, Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer said: "It will become clear
what it was. But of course we are keeping our fingers crossed."
Sporting director Max Eberl provided a reassuring update in
the mixed zone, saying: "The most important thing, he's doing well!"
Musiala complained of dizziness and circulatory
problems brought on by the heat. Initial examinations by Bayern revealed no
major issues, though he is expected to rest and recover over the coming days.
He remains a doubt for the upcoming DFL Super Cup clash
against Borussia Dortmund, ahead of Bayern's Bundesliga season opener against
Stuttgart on Friday, August 28.
