Friday, August 14, 2026 - A Kenyan surgeon accused of killing his wife during a domestic dispute has been detained for seven more days as police continue investigations into the incident in Kiambu.
A court in Kiambu allowed police to detain Denis Masoba
Nyambane, 36, a surgeon at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital, over the death of his
30-year-old wife, Mary Mwende Mutie.
Nyambane is accused of stabbing Mwende with a kitchen knife
at their rented house in Busacarde Plaza, Kiambu.
Police say Mwende died instantly, leaving behind their
three-year-old son, who is now traumatised by the incident.
During a spot check at the apartment, blood stains were found on the staircase, where the deceased is believed to have collapsed while attempting to leave the house after sustaining the stab wounds.
Caretaker Isaac Omare said he was alerted by a neighbour who
called for help after Mwende was stabbed.
However, by the time he arrived, she had already died,
prompting them to alert Kiambu Police Station.
Omare said the family had lived in the apartment for about
two weeks after moving from a nearby residence and had not interacted much with
other tenants.
Neighbours said residents rushed to help but found Mwende
lying in a pool of blood with her young son beside her.
The suspect will undergo a mental assessment at Kiambu
Hospital, while a postmortem will be conducted at Kenyatta Referral Hospital to
establish the cause of death.
Ironically, the surgeon had previously made a video that was
shared online on safety measures to be taken in case of a stabbing
