Faulty generator triggers petrol station fire in Kano

Thursday, August 27, 2026 - A fire outbreak was recorded at a petrol filling station in Rano Local Government Area of Kano State on Tuesday night, with firefighters preventing the blaze from spreading to other parts of the facility.

The incident occurred at Tukur Muhd Nig. Limited, located along Saya Saya Road, Rano, at about 9:20pm.

This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.

According to the statement, the agency’s Emergency Response Unit at Rano Fire Station received a distress call from the filling station’s manager, Abubakar Umar, reporting the fire outbreak.

“On Tuesday, 25 August 2026, at about 21:20 hours, our Emergency Response Unit received a distress call from Abubakar Umar, the manager of Tukur Muhd Nig. Limited, reporting a fire outbreak at the premises,” the statement said.

The agency said firefighters from the Rano Fire Station immediately responded to the distress call and proceeded to the scene.

“Upon arrival, our men found a ground-floor building measuring approximately 200 by 100 feet, being used as a petrol filling station,” the statement added.

The firefighters, however, successfully contained the blaze and prevented it from spreading to other sections of the filling station.

“Our men successfully contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to other parts of the filling station,” the agency said.

The Kano State Fire Service attributed the incident to a fault in the generator, with no casualties reported.

The Director of the agency, Alhaji Sani Anas, urged residents to remain vigilant and take proactive measures to prevent fire outbreaks.

“Members of the public should remain vigilant and take proactive measures to reduce the incidence of fire outbreaks,” Anas said.

He also urged residents and business owners to ensure that fire-safety equipment was available and functional at their premises.

“We appeal to residents to equip their homes and business premises with functional fire extinguishers and ensure that appropriate fire-safety measures are observed at all times,” he added.
