Wednesday, August 26, 2026 - The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the d3ath and alleged unlawful disposal of the remains of a pregnant woman in Fadeyi area of Lagos.
The incident came to light on August 22, 2026, at about 6:30
p.m., after information was received at Alakara Police Division concerning
activities at a premises on Coker Line, Fadeyi, suspected of being operated as
an illegal maternity home.
Preliminary Police investigation indicated that a pregnant
woman identified only as Amoke was allegedly buried in a shallow grave at the
premises.
Further inquiry reportedly revealed that the suspects later
exhumed the body and allegedly cut open the deceased’s abdomen with a knife
before removing the unborn child.
Following the report, Police detectives visited the location
and arrested two suspects, identified as Balikis Lateef and Abdulateef Yusuf
Bello.
Further investigation subsequently led to the arrest of
another suspect, Jamiu Ayinde.
The three suspects are currently in Police custody assisting
with the investigation.
Police detectives are intensifying efforts to establish the
exact location where the deceased was buried and recover the remains for
forensic examination.
The investigation is also expected to establish the
circumstances surrounding the woman’s death, the identity and role of each
suspect and whether other persons were involved in the alleged illegal
maternity-home operation.
The case raises serious concerns over unregulated medical
activities and the possible exploitation of vulnerable pregnant women.
The Police are expected to work with relevant health and
forensic authorities to ensure that the circumstances surrounding the death are
fully established and that anyone found culpable is brought before the court.
