Police arrest suspected robber in Lagos, recover locally fabricated pistol

Thursday, July 30, 2026 - Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected armed robbery suspect and recovered a locally fabricated pistol alongside assorted charms during a routine patrol in the Igando area of Lagos State.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.

The PPRO noted that the arrest was part of the command’s sustained efforts against crime and criminality across the state.

According to the statement, the arrest followed the interception of a motorcycle carrying three male occupants whose conduct aroused the suspicion of a police patrol team.

The statement read, “As part of the sustained efforts against crime and criminality across Lagos State, operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered a locally fabricated pistol as well as assorted charms during a routine patrol in Igando area of the State.”

It added, “The arrest was made when a Police patrol team sighted a motorcycle conveying three male occupants behaving suspiciously.

“On sighting the police, the suspects attempted to flee. One of the suspects, Olajunja Segun Samson ‘m’ 29 years, was apprehended, while the two other suspects escaped, abandoning the motorcycle.”

The police said a search conducted on the suspect and the abandoned motorcycle led to the recovery of “one locally fabricated pistol and assorted charms.”

According to the statement, “The suspect is currently in Police custody while efforts are being intensified to apprehend the fleeing accomplices. Investigation into the case is ongoing.”

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the operatives for what the statement described as their “vigilance and professionalism.”

The statement added that the commissioner “reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to tackling violent crimes and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information that will aid crime prevention and the apprehension of criminal elements.”

The command also urged residents to report suspicious activities through its emergency lines to ensure prompt police response, according to the statement.
