Tuesday, July 14, 2026 - An Upper Area Court No.1, sitting in Ganye Local Government Area, Adamawa State on Monday, remanded a man identified as Jediel Sylvester at correctional center for allegedly impregnating his own daughter (names withheld).
The court presided by Hon. Kabiru Musa, ordered the remand of the
defendant in prison after pleading guilty to the alleged offences slammed
against him.
Sylvester was arraigned following a direct criminal complaint filed
against him by his daughter and her uncle through their Counsel, Abdulrahman
Njidda Esq., brought pursuant to section 111 of the Administration of Criminal
Justice Law Adamawa State 2018.
The case registered with case No. UACG/NO1/CR/FI/113/26 was filed before
Hon. Kabiru Musa of Upper Area Court No.1, Ganye by an uncle to the victim,
Mohammed Audi and herself respectively.
Mohammed told the court that the defendant is married to his sister who
gave birth to the victim whom the defendant had impregnated.
He informed the court that the defendant took his daughter (the victim) to
a medical personnel after she had complained to him that her menstrual period
had stopped.
According to the first complainant, the girl was examined by the medical
personnel and told that she was pregnant for 3 months and that when her father
asked her to mention the name of someone else as to who is responsible for the
pregnancy, the girl said nobody ever had sexual intercourse with her.
It was gathered that the defendant suggested that the pregnancy be aborted
but he was told that the pregnancy had reached 3 months and it was dangerous to
attempt aborting it.
The girl who is the 2nd complainant in the case told the court that her
father used to beat, force and intimidate her always before having s3x with
her.
The complainants told the court that the conduct of the defendant amounts
to offences including incest, criminal intimidation and assault contrary to
sections 367, 382, and 242 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State.
When the particulars of the complaint was read and interpreted to the
defendant, he pleaded guilty to offences and attributed his action to lust.
