Wednesday, July 15, 2026 - A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Gombe has ordered the remand of a school principal and a teacher at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, over the alleged sexu@l ass@ult of a six-year-old pupil.
According to the prosecution, sometime in July 2026, a class
teacher identified as Eleazer Yila sexu@lly assaulted the six-year-old pupil.
During the trial, the prosecuting counsel told the court
that the incident came to light after the child revealed the sad incident to
her mother, Mrs Sarah Emmanuel.
The prosecutors told the court that the school principal,
Nasiru Barau Manun, allegedly shielded the teacher instead of reporting the
matter to the appropriate authorities.
They argued that the offences are contrary to Sections 285
and 167 of the Penal Code Law.
When the charges were read and explained to them, both
defendants pleaded guilty.
Following their plea, the prosecution urged the court to
summarily try the matter in pursuant to Section 338 of the Gombe State
Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2020.
The court subsequently remanded the defendants at the Medium
Security Custodial Centre and adjourned the case until July 28, 2026, for
judgment.
