Friday, July 31, 2026 - The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the m8rder of a 51-year-old accused of witchcraft in Dandango.
The spokesperson for the command, SP Nafiu Habib disclosed
this in a statement on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
According to the PPRO, the victim, Monday Chiroma, and
another resident, Yelwa Bango, were attacked by a group of men who accused them
of bewitching a 20-year-old woman, Jamila Anthony, who later d!ed while
receiving treatment at a hospital.
The two victims were rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa
University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) Bauchi, for medical attention.
Chiroma was certified d3ad, while Bango was treated and
admitted.
“On 21st July 2026 at about 1230hrs, a report was received
at E-Division Yelwa, from one Mr. Bala (other names withheld), of Danga
Security, and one other man, both of Dandango area. They reported and presented
the lifeless body of one Monday Chiroma, male, 51 years, also of same address,”
the statement read.
"Preliminary investigation revealed that on 20th July,
2026 at about 2330hrs, Danjuma Anthony, 25-years-old; Ayuba Anthony,
22-years-old years (aka Babaru), Christopher Adamu, 34-years-old, Peter Monday
(aka Maimako), Joshua Christopher, Babangida Monday, Ali Yakubu, Iliya Yakubu
(aka Ashe), Sati Monday, and Bulus Monday (aka Gagau) all of Dandango,
allegedly conspired and attacked the duo.
"The attack was reportedly carried out on the suspicion
that the victims were responsible for bewitching one Jamila Anthony, a
20-years-old female victim who is a daughter of Yelwa Bango, who later died
while receiving treatment at a hospital in Gudun Hausawa, Bauchi.
"The victims were rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa
University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) Bauchi, for medical attention.
"Regrettably, Monday Chiroma was certified d3ad, while
Yelwa Bango was treated and admitted.
"Following a swift response by operatives of E-Division, three suspects were arrested. They are: Danjuma Anthony, 25 years; Ayuba Anthony, 22 years; and Christopher Adamu, 34 years.
"During interrogation, they confessed to the offence.
"Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing in collaboration with
Danga Security and the community to apprehend the remaining suspects who are
currently at large.
“The case has also been transferred to SCID, Bauchi, for
discreet investigation and prosecution.”
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni,
psc(+), has condemned the incident in strong terms.
He urged members of the public to shun violence and jungle
justice, and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police
station.
