Wednesday, June 3, 2026 -The US military says it has “successfully defeated” a series of Iranian missile and drone attacks in the Gulf and carried out self-defense strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) also dismissed claims by Iran’s
Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps that it had struck the headquarters of the US
Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain and other regional bases.
According to CENTCOM, Iran launched several ballistic
missiles toward regional targets, but all failed to hit their intended
destinations.
“Two Iranian missiles fired at Kuwait fell short or broke
apart en route, and three missiles launched at Bahrain were immediately
intercepted by US and Bahraini air defence forces,” the statement said.
Kuwait’s military said its air defence systems were actively
intercepting what it described as “hostile” missile and drone attacks.
CENTCOM later added that a further wave of Iranian drones
targeting US forces in Kuwait also failed to reach their targets, with several
drones shot down.
It also said US forces intercepted three attack drones
launched toward civilian vessels transiting regional waters.
CENTCOM said it conducted a self-defense strike on what it
described as an Iranian military ground control station on Qeshm Island,
located in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route for oil
and gas.
The command said no US personnel were injured in the
operation.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, in a statement carried by state
media, claimed they had struck US military installations in retaliation for the
strike on Qeshm Island.
CENTCOM rejected the claim, calling it “FALSE” and insisting
that all Iranian attacks on American forces had failed.
A ceasefire has been in place between the United States and
Iran since April, although tensions have continued amid unsuccessful talks
aimed at reaching a more permanent agreement.
Earlier, US forces also reportedly intercepted vessels
accused of attempting to violate an American blockade in the region.
