Saturday, June 20, 2026 -The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Ibadan, (UI), has confirmed the abduction of a 300-level female Law student, identified simply as Tomisin Abo
According to a statement signed by the Union's President,
Comrade Temidayo Adeboye, the student had embarked on a religious retreat with
the National General Director of the Scripture Union Student Fellowship, Engr.
Uwem Cosmos, and eight other participants.
Tomisin is the National Secretary of the Scripture Union
Student Fellowship, Nigeria, and the Vice President of the Scripture Union, UI chapter.
The union dismissed reports claiming that eight UI students
were missing, clarifying that Tomisin is the only student of the institution
currently unaccounted for.
According to Adeboye, the union has “initiated the necessary
engagements to ascertain the facts surrounding the situation” and has
established contact with relevant religious organisations and security agencies
to facilitate appropriate intervention.
Tomisin was reportedly returning from the Scripture Union
National Conference held at the Camp of Faith in Okigwe, Imo State, when
communication with her was lost.
Her disappearance came to light after she failed to appear
for her faculty examinations on Monday and Tuesday.
Reports further indicated that another UI student from the
Department of Music, who also attended the conference, returned safely, while
only the vehicle conveying the General Director remains unaccounted for.
Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Ademola Lewis, who confirmed the
development said the university was aware of the situation but had not been
informed in advance of the trip.
He added that efforts were already underway to secure the
student’s safe return and urged members of the university community to remain
calm and refrain from spreading unverified information that could further
escalate the situation.
