Tuesday, June 23, 2026 - Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has fired back at internet users who criticized her decision to burn the white outfit she wore to the burial of her late colleague, Alexx Ekubo.
The late actor, who passed away on May 11, was laid to rest
on Thursday, June 18, in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State. Okorie was
among the prominent entertainment figures who traveled to pay their final
respects at the somber event.
However, controversy erupted last night after Okorie
uploaded a video to Instagram showing a garment being set ablaze. In the
caption, the actress explained that her godmother explicitly instructed her
never to keep clothing worn to a funeral. Following that guidance, she
destroyed the outfit and advised her followers to adopt the same practice for
spiritual or personal protection.
The post quickly drew backlash from online commentators.
Many netizens interpreted the act as insensitive, accusing the actress of
publicly disrespecting Ekubo’s memory.
In a swift rejoinder, Okorie dismissed her critics, doubling
down on her actions and asserting her right to follow personal customs without
public scrutiny.
