Saturday, June 27, 2026 - A plane crashed into Beijing's tallest building on Friday, witnesses said, as roads around the skyscraper were closed off.
The skyscraper, known as CITIC Tower or China Zun,
comprises over 100 storeys and stands in Beijing's central business district.
The incident occurred on Friday evening when the light
aircraft struck the upper floors of the 109-storey CITIC Tower, also known as
China Zun, in Beijing's central business district at around 6 p.m. local time.
Emergency services, including police, firefighters, and
ambulances, quickly arrived at the scene as the building was evacuated. Roads
surrounding the tower in Beijing's central business district were closed while
officials assessed the damage.
Witnesses described hearing a loud bang before spotting
debris raining down from the skyscraper. Images and videos circulating online
showed broken windows on the building and aircraft wreckage scattered on the
ground. Some reports also showed damage to vehicles parked nearby.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether there were any casualties or injuries. The condition of the pilot also remains unclear.
