Monday, June 8, 2026 - A truck loaded with building materials was found to be concealing large consignments of opioids and other illicit substances, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has said.
The Director of Media and Advocacy of the NDLEA, Femi
Babafemi, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that the agency’s Taraba Command,
acting on credible intelligence, intercepted a truck conveying building
materials from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Jalingo.
“A thorough search of the vehicle by the NDLEA operatives at
the Nukkai Timber Shade, Jalingo, led to the discovery of a massive drug stash
concealed beneath the cargo, while a 22-year-old suspect, Buhari Abdullahi, was
promptly arrested,” the statement said.
Recovered from the truck were “320,840 capsules of tramadol,
600 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 4,500 pills of rohypnol, and 299 bottles
of codeine-based cough syrup.”
In Ebonyi State, operatives arrested a 75-year-old man,
Okebe Samuel, at Okposi, who was allegedly found with 300 grams of skunk.
“Demonstrating that age is no barrier to the enforcement of
the law, NDLEA operatives in Ebonyi State tracked down and arrested a
75-year-old grandpa, Okebe Samuel, at Okposi.
“The septuagenarian was found in possession of 300 grams of
skunk, which he sells in retail sachets to the youth in his community,” the
agency disclosed.
In Imo State, Babafemi added that officers raided a drug
enclave at Umulolo, Orlu, where a female suspect, Chioma Okeke (32), was
arrested and 8 kilograms of skunk recovered.
In Edo State, the agency stated that four traffickers,
including three women, were arrested during raids in Benin City on Tuesday, 2
June 2026.
At Uyosa, Chioma Igba (24) and Precious Ozomah (22) were
arrested with “176 grams of skunk, 65 grams of Loud, and 5 grams of
methamphetamine.”
Along Agbor Road, Benin City, Anita Abraham (21) was
arrested with “95 grams of Scottish Loud and 329 grams of regular Loud,” while
Henry Okey (43) was arrested at Upper Mission with assorted psychotropic
substances.
In Kano State, operatives arrested Saifullahi Lawan (19) at
the Kafi area of Madobi on Thursday, 4 June 2026, with “40 blocks of skunk
weighing a total of 38 kilograms.”
In Gombe State, Ugwu Ifebuchi (28) was intercepted near
Dantiti Plaza in the Tumfure area with “15,000 capsules of tramadol.”
The agency also said its War Against Drug Abuse
sensitisation campaign continued across schools in Oyo, Lagos, Anambra and Kano
states.
Reacting to the operations, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer
of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers and men of
the affected commands.
“The War Against Drug Abuse social advocacy activities by
NDLEA Commands and formations equally continued across the country in the past
week,” he said.
He added that the agency “remains fully committed to
dismantling drug supply chains and will continue to target traffickers
regardless of age, gender, or concealment methods.”
