Monday, June 22, 2026 - The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a couple following the grim discovery of their twin infants’ lifeless bodies dumped in a drainage channel in the Okpoko area of Ogbaru Local Government Area on Sunday, June 21.

Headquarters launched an immediate investigation early Sunday morning after
receiving tip-offs from local residents regarding the abandoned infants along
Cooperative Street, Nwokedi, Okpoko. Officers quickly secured the scene and
gathered vital evidence from the location.
Preliminary investigations swiftly led to the tracking and
arrest of the biological parents. The suspects are currently held in police
custody and are cooperating with investigators to uncover the circumstances
surrounding the deaths and abandonment.
Reacting to the incident, the Anambra State Commissioner of
Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, strongly condemned the act, emphasizing that every
child possesses an inherent right to protection, care, and life. He assured the
public that the command remains fully dedicated to ensuring everyone involved
faces the full wrath of the law.
The police say Investigation into the matter is ongoing, and
