Sunday, June 21, 2026 -Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force Northwest Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued 22
kidnapped victims in separate operations in Sokoto State.
A statement by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task
Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, says
the rescue operations followed credible intelligence reports and distress calls
on terrorist activities in the affected Areas, underscoring the commitment of
Operation FANSAN YAMMA to safeguarding lives and property as well as creating a
secure environment for Citizens to carry out their lawful activities without
fear.
The first incident occurred along the Sabon Birni–Shinkafi
Road at Kura Mota Village, where terrorists reportedly attacked two commercial
vehicles and abducted several passengers after k!lling one Civilian.
It states that on receiving the information, Troops swiftly
mobilised to the Area and launched a coordinated pursuit operation with aerial
support.
The sustained pressure forced the terrorists to abandon
their captives and flee, leading to the successful rescue of 17 kidnapped
passengers.
In a related development, Troops responded to another attack
at Chohi Village in Isa Local Government Area, where armed terrorists attempted
to kidnap Farmers working on their farmlands.
The Troops immediately deployed to the Area and pursued the
fleeing criminals along their escape route. The operation resulted in the
rescue of five abducted Farmers, who were subsequently reunited with their
Families.
Following the operations, Troops conducted
confidence-building patrols in surrounding Communities, including Gidan Rana
and Gidan Sale villages, to reassure Residents and strengthen security presence
in the Area.
The statement adds that the Military remains resolute in
denying terrorists freedom of action and ensuring lasting peace across
Communities in the Northwest Region.
