Monday, May 11, 2026 - US President Donald Trump on Sunday accused Iran of “playing games” and mocking the United States for decades, warning that Tehran would soon be stopped following reports that it had sent its response to Washington’s latest peace proposal.
Although Trump did not directly address the details of
Iran’s reported response, he issued a sharp warning on Truth Social, signaling
escalating rhetoric between the two countries.
“Iran has been playing games with the United States, and the
rest of the World, for 47 years (DELAY, DELAY, DELAY!),” Trump wrote.
He also accused Tehran of “laughing at our now GREAT AGAIN
Country” before adding: “They will be laughing no longer!”
Trump further criticized former President Barack Obama,
claiming he had been favorable to Iran and had given the country “a major and
very powerful new lease on life.”
His comments appeared to reference the Joint Comprehensive
Plan of Action, JCPOA, commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal, which was
signed during the Obama administration in 2015.
Meanwhile, Iranian state media reported that Tehran had
formally submitted its response to the U.S. peace proposal aimed at ending the
ongoing conflict.
According to Iranian state television, the response focused
on halting the war across all fronts, particularly in Lebanon, while also
emphasizing the security of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
The response followed Washington’s proposal to first end
hostilities before beginning negotiations on more sensitive issues, including
Iran’s nuclear programme.
A Pakistani official told Reuters that Islamabad,
which has been assisting in mediation efforts, forwarded Iran’s response to the
United States.
As of now, Washington has not issued an official statement
detailing its reaction to Tehran’s response.
