Friday, May 1, 2026 - The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has arrested a suspected drug dealer, at the Audu Bako Secretariat during the ongoing “Operation Sharar Mafaka.”
The Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics and Public
Relations Officer of the command, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, who disclosed this
in a statement on Thursday, April 30, 2026 said the suspect had jumped from the
second floor of a building at the secretariat to evade arrest.
“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives mobilized to
dislodge notorious drug joints operating within the secretariat,” the statement
read.
"On sighting NDLEA officers, the suspect climbed to the
second floor of a building at the secretariat and jumped from behind the
structure in an attempt to evade arrest.
“Despite his effort to escape, operatives apprehended him
immediately, recovered a quantity of Cannabis sativa, and conveyed him to the
command office for further investigation and possible prosecution.
"The suspect, who works as a car washer, admitted to
being involved in the illicit trade for approximately two years.
“Officers involved in the operation say their vigilance and
thoroughness ensured no lead was left unchecked in effecting the arrest and
securing the exhibit.”
Reacting to the arrest, CN DY Lawal, commander of the NDLEA
Kano Strategic Command, said: “This is a warning to all those that think
government establishments can be used as a hide out for their illicit
activities,”
"Operation Sharar Mafaka remains active as the NDLEA
intensifies efforts to rid Kano State of drug distribution points and hold
offenders accountable under the law.
