Wednesday, May 6, 2026 - Operatives of the Edo State Security Corps have arrested a 45-year-old ex-convict, Owen Osas, for alleged armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms.
Osas was reportedly apprehended on May 3 during a covert
operation along Fishpond Road in Eyean, Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo
State.
The suspect was said to have been found in possession of a
cut-to-size single-barrel gun at the time of his arrest.
According to security sources, Osas confessed to the crime
and also admitted being a member of the Eiye Confraternity.
The arrest comes barely a year after his release from
prison, where he had served time for illegal possession of firearms and other
offences.
A victim of a recent robbery incident, Reginia Izy,
identified Osas as the person who allegedly robbed her a day before his arrest.
She said the suspect approached her residence around 8 p.m.,
pretending to be familiar, before carrying out the attack.
The Deputy Commander, Operations of the ESSC, Richard
Balogun, said the arrest was part of ongoing efforts to rid the state of
criminal elements.
Balogun explained that operatives carry out both overt
patrols and covert operations to track and apprehend suspects.
“Our men are always on patrol. Some operate in plain clothes
as part of covert strategies, while others are stationed at strategic
locations.
“Osas, who is a former convict, was arrested with a firearm
and also confessed to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity,” he said.
