Wednesday, May 13, 2026 - Former Premier League defender, Tariq Lamptey has had his contract terminated at Serie A side Fiorentina.
Lamptey, who came through Chelsea's academy, only played 25
minutes for Fiorentina after his summer arrival from Brighton.
Romano reported the news via his official X handle, stating,
“Fiorentina terminate Tariq Lamptey’s contract with immediate effect after only
25 mins played at the club.”
The 25-year-old departed the Seagulls after five years last
September, heading to Italy for £5million.
However, things haven't gone well at all for the right-back.
He only managed to play 25 minutes of football at the Serie A club, who have
now cut their losses after he missed 45 games.
He made his debut against Napoli but lasted just four
minutes and then suffered an ACL injury 21 minutes into a game against Como
last September, which was his only start for Fiorentina.
He suffered three separate injuries that saw him stay on the
sidelines for 14 games for club and country two years ago.
In the 2023/24 campaign, Lamptey spent well over 100 days in
the treatment room for another set of multiple problems.
And that followed a serious knee injury in 2022/23, which
forced him out of action for another 100-day spell.
The decision to terminate Lamptey’s contract is now seen as
a major indication that the defender is not expected to recover in time for the
World Cup in North America next month
