Tuesday, April 14, 2026 - A jilted woman has been arrested after she lied that her ex-boyfriend was taking a bomb on a plane in New Mexico in a bid to get him in trouble just hours after they broke up, cops said.
Brooke Ayers, 47, was seen grinning in her mugshot after she
allegedly dug her nails into an arresting officer while also threatening to
stab them, according to officials.
She had allegedly called American Airlines last Wednesday,
April 8, to claim she’d learned her ex would be taking explosives onto his
flight out of the Roswell Air Center airport later that day.
The oblivious 34-year-old boyfriend, who had been visiting
Ayers from Indiana, ended up being intercepted as law enforcement frantically
diverted traffic away from the airport over the fake bomb plot.
He was immediately detained and his rental car was cordoned
off as the bomb squad searched it for traces of explosives.
Eventually, police determined the boyfriend didn’t have any
form of bomb on him, and he was cut loose.
“The investigation found Ayers made the false claim
following an argument she had with the 34-year-old man the previous night,
resulting in the end of their relationship,” Roswell Police said in a
statement.
Police, meanwhile, responded to Ayers home but she allegedly
became aggressive when officers tried to question her.
“Ayers threatened to get a knife and use it against an
officer, so she was placed in handcuffs to transport her to the police
department for questioning,” cops said.
“While being handcuffed, Ayers resisted and dug her nails
into the arm of one of the officers.”
She was arrested and charged with making a bomb scare,
aggravated assault on a peace officer, battery upon a peace officer, and
resisting, evading or obstructing an officer.
