Navy arrests officers filmed fighting during president TINUBU’s visit to Bayelsa




Sunday, April 12, 2026 - The Nigerian Navy has confirmed the arrest of some of its personnel following a clash with soldiers in Bayelsa State during the visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The incident, which went viral in a 53-second video, showed uniformed officers engaged in a heated confrontation that later escalated into a physical fight.

The altercation reportedly occurred as the President was departing the venue of an official engagement in the state.

In the footage, a driver of a Hilux vehicle marked “Naval Police” was seen confronting another driver, leading to a verbal exchange.

Moments later, a soldier armed with a rifle approached and struck the Naval Police driver, triggering a wider scuffle between personnel from both sides as bystanders watched.

As of the time of filing this report, the exact cause of the clash had yet to be determined.

Reacting in a statement on his X handle shared on Saturday, the Director of Naval Information, Captain Abi Folorunso, confirmed that those involved had been taken into custody and were undergoing disciplinary procedures.

“The affected personnel are in custody and already undergoing appropriate administrative and disciplinary procedures in accordance with extant military regulations,” he said.

The Navy assured that the matter was being handled in line with established military rules, as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
