Friday, April 24, 2026 - A student of the University of Jos UNIJOS, John Arum Azi, who was abducted ten days ago while travelling from Jos, Plateau state to Zaria, Kaduna state, has regained his freedom.
Azi ad six other passengers were travelling when the
assailants attacked their vehicle and abducted all of them.
Tension around the case intensified after a video surfaced
online showing the student being assaulted by his captors while pleading for
help, sparking public concern and calls for urgent action.
The abductors demanded a ransom payment of N6 million, which
was reportedly raised through contributions from relatives and concerned
members of the public.
Initially, the abductors demanded N30 million, but later
reduced the amount after prolonged discussions. However, the family alleged
that even after receiving the payment, the kidnappers still insisted on an
additional N4 million before his release.
His release has since been confirmed by his family.
